The unit “Review of Literature” forms a vital foundation in the study of Nursing Research, equipping postgraduate nursing students with the skills to critically appraise and synthesize existing evidence to inform and guide their own research endeavors.
In line with the syllabus prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council and approved by the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, this unit aims to develop scholarly competence in locating, evaluating, organizing, and presenting literature relevant to nursing and health-related research problems.A well-conducted review of literature is the cornerstone of any scientific inquiry. It not only helps identify what is already known but also highlights gaps in knowledge, inconsistencies in findings, and potential directions for further research. For postgraduate nursing students, understanding the process of literature review enhances the ability to design rigorous studies, frame meaningful research questions, and justify the significance of their research problem within the context of existing evidence.
This unit introduces learners to the purpose, sources, and types of literature, and emphasizes the use of electronic databases, search strategies, and citation management tools. Students will also learn how to critically analyze and synthesize research findings, organize them thematically, and present them in a scholarly manner consistent with academic writing conventions and ethical standards of citation.
